Tips & Tricks from Real Parents
The zoo is HUGE (710 acres) - take the Zoomobile between regions or your kids will be exhausted before lunch.
Winter visits are cheaper and quieter - many animals (including the pandas) are more active in cool weather.
Tundra Trek (polar bears) is the star attraction - go first thing when it opens at 9 AM.
Bring your own food. The zoo cafes are expensive and the lines at lunch are 30+ minutes.
The Discovery Zone has a touch table with animal artifacts and a small indoor play area.
The Waterside Theatre splash pad is perfect for a summer cool-down - pack swimsuits.

A Real Parent's Story
My daughter waved at a polar bear and it waved back
“Our 4-year-old pressed her hand against the glass of the underwater polar bear viewing window. The bear swam over, pressed its paw against the same spot, and stayed there for 5 minutes.”
The underwater tunnel at the Tundra Trek is magical. A 500-pound polar bear on the other side of 3-inch glass, inches from your face. Our daughter pressed her hand against the glass, and the bear swam over and matched her. We stood there for 5 minutes, face-to-face with a polar bear. My daughter still talks about her 'polar bear friend.'
