Da Nang with Kids: Vietnam's Best Beach Value
Da Nang sits on Vietnam's central coast with a 30km stretch of white sand beach. Unlike Nha Trang (more developed) or Hoi An (smaller), Da Nang combines wide, uncrowded beaches with world-class resorts at a fraction of Phuket prices.
Best Beaches for Families
My Khe Beach — Da Nang's main beach: 5km of white sand with gentle waves. The water is shallow for 20-30 meters — perfect for toddlers. Sunbeds are free if you buy drinks from the beachfront cafes (a coconut costs $1). The north end near the Son Tra Peninsula is quieter. Bac My An Beach — Just south of My Khe. Even quieter, with fewer vendors and more space. Several beachfront resorts have their own section here. The water has a slightly steeper drop-off so keep young kids close. Non Nuoc Beach — At the southern end near Marble Mountains. Backed by luxury resorts and golf courses. The sand is soft, the water clear, and the crowds thin. Best for families staying at the resorts on this stretch.Best Family Resorts
Pullman Da Nang Beach Resort ($$$) — Excellent kids' club (4-12 years) with daily activities from lantern-making to Vietnamese lessons. Two massive pools including a kids' pool with slides. Family rooms from $120/night on Booking.com. Breakfast buffet ($15/adult, kids under 6 free) has both Asian and Western options. Premier Village Da Nang ($$$) — Two-bedroom pool villas from $150/night. Private pool means zero stress about swim diapers. The resort has a kids' club, water slides, and direct beach access. Best for families with toddlers who nap mid-day. Mikazuki Resort & Spa ($$) — Japanese-themed resort with a water park included in the room rate. Indoor and outdoor pools, wave pool, and slides. Rooms from $70/night on Agoda. The onsen (Japanese hot spring) has separate hours for families. A La Carte Da Nang Beach ($$) — Apartment-style hotel with kitchenettes — a rarity that saves money on meals. One-bedroom apartments from $50/night on Booking.com. Rooftop infinity pool with sea views. Best for budget-conscious families.Kid-Friendly Activities
Ba Na Hills — A cable car ride to a hilltop French village. The cable car holds a Guinness World Record for length. At the top: a fantasy park with rides, a wax museum, and Le Jardin D'Amour flower gardens. Entry $35/adult ($20/child on Klook). Best for ages 4+. Go early (8am) to avoid 1+ hour cable car queues. Sun World Asia Park — Smaller amusement park with a 90m tall ferris wheel and a dedicated kids' zone with gentle rides. $12/adult, $6/child on Klook. Half a day is sufficient. Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain) — Drive up for views of the city and the 67m tall Lady Buddha statue (Linh Ung Pagoda). Wild monkeys roam the area — keep windows and stroller bags closed. Free entry to the pagoda. Marble Mountains — A cluster of five marble and limestone hills with caves, tunnels, and temples. The main mountain (Thuy Son) has 156 steps — doable for ages 5+ but skip with a stroller. Entry $3/adult.Where to Eat
Luk Lak Restaurant — Vietnamese comfort food in a garden setting. Kids' fried rice ($3), spring rolls, and fresh juice. The owner's kids play nearby, giving yours something to watch. Madame Lan — Riverside Vietnamese restaurant. The set menu ($10/person) lets you sample multiple dishes without ordering individually. The chicken noodle soup is mild and kid-approved. Waterfront Restaurant — Western and Vietnamese options on the Han River. Pizza ($7-10), pasta, and Vietnamese dishes. The river views make it a pleasant dinner spot. Con Market — Go for the experience. A local market with $1 banh mi, $0.50 fresh sugarcane juice, and all the tropical fruit kids can eat. Mornings are cooler and less crowded.Getting Around
Grab works everywhere. A ride from the beach to the city center costs 40,000-60,000 VND ($1.60-2.40). Rent a scooter with sidecar ($10/day) for short trips if you're brave. Otherwise, private drivers cost $30-40/day.
Day Trip to Hoi An
Da Nang to Hoi An is 30km (35-45 minutes by car). Grab costs $10-15. Make a day of it: morning in the Ancient Town, lunch at Morning Glory (best cao lau), afternoon at An Bang Beach, back to Da Nang before dinner.
The Verdict
Da Nang is the best-value beach destination for families in Vietnam. It's less touristy than Nha Trang and has better infrastructure than Phuket. The beaches are genuinely beautiful, the resorts are affordable, and the food scene is excellent. Three to four days here pairs perfectly with Hoi An.
